Box Breathing and the Physiological Sigh
One of the most important things we can do for our health is one of the most simple. Or at least it seems to be simple. Most of us do not breath deliberately. The result is we are not getting the most value from a practice that we need to stay alive! Adhering to a worthwhile breathing practice will be beneficial to your physical and mental health, adding a tremendous amount of value to your overall well-being. I personally practice a very simple breathing technique, called Box Breathing. Each round of breath takes only 16 seconds. I complete this routine in four minute increments, and then repeat three times a day. I also like to throw in what is commonly referred to as a ‘physiological sigh.” One long inhale, topped off with another brief inhale, followed by a long exhale. These practices feel like a cheat code. A few brief moments of focus during your day will pay huge dividends to your overall well-being.
