Discovering Value

Worthwhile Environment

Be present. Look around. WHERE are you? Do you like the physical space you are occupying? Do you feel connected to your surroundings? Does the place you are in bring you joy, happiness, enjoyment, value?

We all prefer to be in a place that improves who we are, what we do, and how we act. We want to be where we experience positive emotions. This may be travelling to your favorite city, visiting family, enjoying the sunset on a beach, hiking to the top of a mountain, eating at your favorite restaurant, hanging with your best friends, or staying in and enjoying the comfort of your own home. One does not have to provide more than the other, but it is worthwhile to what reflect on what each place provides you with. Is it the awe of the outdoors? The activities you experience? The company you keep? The coziness of the room? It can all be valuable.

It is beneficial to take stock of your environment. Is it the light, the colors, the sounds, the imagery, the overall vibe? When you can be present and take inventory on your environment, you begin to get a clear picture of WHERE you want to be. You see the value in being in that place, at that time.

Of course, we may not always find ourselves in an environment that we value. This is the reason that being present matters. We need to know what our surroundings are not we we need at that moment. There is as much value in knowing WHERE we do not want to be as knowing WHERE we do want to be.

We have so much control over our environments. We know what we value and what makes us feel alive. We can go to those place and we can create those places. What a wonderful tool to possess! There is always the possibility for you to be in a worthwhile place. WHERE do you find value?

“I think I have learned more on road trips than I have learned just about anywhere else in my Life. Its like a classroom. Its an office. Its a place where my mind catches up with me. Its a place where I get far enough away from my past that I’m not worried about it. And something about that makes me not even worried about my damn future and I can be present. And then all of a sudden, my past and my future all makes a hell of a lot more sense. Road trips are so good for us in the head and the heart and the spirit.” – Matthew McConaughey
